POLICE IN SAN FRANCISCO WARN AGAINST DRIVING DRUNK OR HIGH DURING THE COMING LABOR DAY WEEKEND
San Francisco Avoid, the City’s multi-jurisdictional crackdown on impaired driving, plans a Saturday, Sept. 5 sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint and CHP freeway saturation for the Labor Day weekend.
The 18-day nationwide summer mobilization themed “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.” ends at midnight Monday.
San Francisco and Marin offices of the California Highway Patrol will assign nearly all their available officers to the road for the weekend, said Monterey CHP Lt. Dane Lobb, who comments that his officers will be on stationary posts at the entrance to the Bay Bridge to prevent crashes.
The California Office of Traffic Safety funds it through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Officers hit the roads again for a 17-day campaign starting Dec. 18.
