FIVE PEOPLE IN JAIL ON DUI WARRANTS
TODAY AS SAN FRANCISCO POLICE CONDUCT SWEEP
Five people with DUI warrants went to jail this morning as part of a San Francisco Police Dept. warrant sweep.
Officers made 35 attempts to serve warrants, said SFPD Officer Bill Garcia. Arrest warrants are issued for people who are convicted of DUI then do comply with the orders of the court.
“We left information at the houses of those people we could not find. This has proven very effective for subjects to turn themselves in after the warrant service,” Garcia commented.
Officers will try again later this week to get in touch with the remainder of the people who hold warrants for their arrest.
The sweep is part of Avoid the 8, the law enforcement crackdown on impaired drivers in San Francisco. It began last Friday and will continue until Jan. 3. The campaign is sponsored by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It will run sobriety checkpoints on Dec. 27 and Jan. 3.
Garcia has researched 28 warrants on people who were arrested in San Francisco but live in Alameda County and has turned them over to Officer Traci Rebiejo of the Livermore Police, who will run Alameda County’s Avoid the 21 campaign major warrant service later in the month.
