SAN FRANCISCO POLICE PLAN SATURATION PATROLS FOR SUPER BOWL SUNDAY

San Francisco police will send extra motorcycle officers out after drunk or
drugged drivers on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 7, according to SFPD traffic Lt.
Jim Calonico.

The saturation patrol will be out from 6 p.m. to well past midnight,
he said.

“Just designate a sober driver to get everyone else home safely after your
football party,” he suggested.

Lt. Calonico reminds party hosts that they can be held liable and
prosecuted if someone they served ends up in a DUI crash.

Research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which
funds the effort through the California Office of Traffic Safety, shows
that the day is especially dangerous. Last year, 11 people died, three
times the daily average, and 133 were injured in DUI crashes, twice the
average.

The effort is funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
