AVOID THE 8 SOBRIETY AND DRIVER'S LICENSE CHECKPOINT
SET FOR SATURDAY, FEB. 13, IN SAN FRANCISCO
San Francisco police officers along with officers from the California Highway Patrol, U.S. Park police and San Francisco Community College District police will staff an Avoid the 8 sobriety checkpoint set for 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13
Police will announce the location two hours before the enforcement event is to begin, said SFPD traffic Lt. Jim Calonico. It will continue until about 1 a.m. Officers will check for signs of impairment and for valid driver's licenses.
The checkpoint is funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
OTS has declared 2010 "The Year of the Checkpoint." It is funding more than 2,500 checkpoints throughout the state, a 47 percent increase over the 1,700 conducted last year.
