SAN FRANCISCO’S AVOID THE 8 DUI CRACKDOWN, SFPD TRAFFIC PROGRAM PLACE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT COMPETITION
Avoid the 8, San Francisco’s law enforcement crackdown on drunk driving, has placed second in the multi-jurisdictional category for 2009 in the California Law Enforcement Challenge.
The San Francisco Police Dept. took second place in the traffic program category reserved for agencies with 2,001 or more sworn officers in the same competition.
Results were announced today by SFPD Capt. Stephen Tacchini, commander of the Traffic Company.
“We consistently try to improve the service we provide to make the roadways safer for everyone,” Tacchini remarked.
The competition, sponsored by the California Highway Patrol and the state’s Office of Traffic Safety, judges traffic programs on officer training, policies, public information, officer recognition, enforcement and results. OTS funds Avoid the 8 through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
