OVER FOUR-DAY INDEPENDENCE DAY CRACKDOWN
Long crackdown set for late summer
Law enforcement officers in San Francisco brought in 47 DUI suspects over the four-day Avoid the 8 crackdown that ended July 5.
A sobriety checkpoint on Saturday night, San Francisco Police Dept. motorcycle saturation DUI patrols and California Highway Patrol freeway saturation all weekend long were on the enforcement calendar.
Along with 40 other countywide crackdowns covering 98 percent of the state’s population, the local campaign is funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
An 18-day campaign starting Aug. 20 and ending Sept. 6 is next on the enforcement calendar, taking in Labor Day weekend.
