AUG. 7 SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT ON
THE ENFORCEMENT CALENDAR
FOR SAN FRANCISCO POLICE
Long summer crackdown starts Aug. 20
San Francisco police, along with California Highway Patrol officers and others from the U.S. Park Police and the San Francisco Community College District Police will staff a Saturday, Aug. 7 sobriety checkpoint.
The enforcement event starts at about 8:15 p.m. and ends at 3 a.m., said SFPD Sgt. Neil Swendsen.
“Whether suspects are arrested at the checkpoint or on the street, a DUI conviction can cost $7,000 or more for all the expenses, never mind that your insurance premiums can go through the roof,” Swendsen commented.
“Beyond that, DUI is now far from socially acceptable and many employers are reluctant to hire convicted drunk drivers.”
Funds for the checkpoint come from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
